Tabitha Darnell

Tabitha Darnell, 36, is an alpine skier from Davenport, Iowa. She is very excited to take her alpine skiing talents to the 2017 Special Olympics World Winter Games in Austria. Darnell began her alpine skiing career at the age of eight and has now amassed an amazing 28 years of alpine skiing experience. Darnell attended Monroe elementary school, which initially got her alpine skiing career started. “Special Olympics is very important to me,” Darnell said. “I get to meet new people from around the world and form new friendships. “ It makes me very happy. I get to recognize the USA through skiing and it makes my family very proud.” Darnell is most looking forward to meeting new people that she can relate to. Some of her hobbies include hanging out with friends, family, going to church, texting and shopping. Darnell has accomplished a number of amazing feats over her successful career. She graduated from high school, trained as a Global Messenger at the first national games, named the Iowa athlete of the year in 2008 and the first Big 12 Special Olympics athlete recognized as athlete of the year in 2008 and 2009.
