Alena “Len” Ohumukini of Flagstaff, Arizona, has been involved with Special Olympics as a Unified partner since 2015. Following her high school graduation, she began competing in Alpine skiing, basketball, bocce, bowling and softball. She will represent Special Olympics USA as a Unified partner in basketball. Special Olympics has changed Len’s life, allowing her to participate in team sports with incredible athletes. In high school, Len competed on the school’s varsity softball team, where she was named the Arizona Daily Sun’s Softball Athlete of the Year in 2014 and 2015. She graduated from Northern Arizona University in 2019 with a degree in hotel and restaurant management. Upon graduating, she started working at a local lunch spot, Jitters Lunchbox, and oversees the restaurant’s food vendor location at an area community college.

The people that Len admires the most are her family members, as her parents have always supported her in every life endeavor. Her sister, who demonstrated her resilient nature by fighting to overcome her breast cancer diagnosis, is her best friend. Len is part of a fellowship that helps others improve their lives through routine, meditation and prayer. She enjoys going on adventures with her fiancé and their poodle, Harry. In training for the Special Olympics World Games Berlin 2023, she works out four to five times a week and practices once weekly with her team. This will be Len’s first trip outside of the United States, one that she looks forward to taking with Special Olympics USA.
