Michael "Robert" McCann of Gainesville, Florida, began his Special Olympics journey in middle school and has been involved for the past three years in basketball, bowling, flag football, soccer and swimming. At the Special Olympics World Games Berlin 2023, he will represent Special Olympics USA in basketball. Robert has played an active role in the Torch Icon Campaign at Publix and in the Jersey Mike’s Month of Giving fundraising campaign for the 2022 Special Olympics USA Games.
He is employed by his friend, who is a contractor, and enjoys playing video games, watching television and spending time with his friend. Robert takes great pride in his sports performance and his ability to live on his own.
This will be his first time traveling outside of the country and he is looking forward to meeting new friends as he represents Special Olympics USA.
