Virginia “Kalei” Lee of Kamuela, Hawaii, has been a Special Olympics athlete for 27 years, competing in athletics, bocce, bowling and powerlifting. She will represent Special Olympics USA in powerlifting. Kalei has friends from eight different neighboring islands, who she gets to see weekly at practices and state-level competitions. To train for the Special Olympics World Games Berlin 2023, Kalei exercises weekly with her coach and her adult day program.

Outside of Special Olympics, she volunteers at her church thrift store and volunteers recycling plastic materials. Kalei most admires her older brother, who is a retired United States Army doctor. She is looking forward to representing Special Olympics USA.
