Eric Markiewicz of New York, New York, has been involved with Special Olympics for the past 10 years in coaching athletics, basketball, bowling, hockey, soccer and volleyball. He will represent Special Olympics USA as an assistant coach in soccer. A teacher at 721M, home of the City Hawks Unified Training Club soccer team, Eric has seen his students benefit the most from competing with Special Olympics. He is thankful for being part of Special Olympics, which has given him an opportunity to coach students to help make them healthier and better athletes.

Outside of school and Special Olympics, Eric enjoys spending time with his family and playing basketball. Following the loss of his mother, being involved with Special Olympics is a positive outlet that Eric was able to look forward to, helping him through a tough time. In preparation for the Special Olympics World Games Berlin 2023, the City Hawks team has been practicing and bonding as a team.
